KLM Cityhopper Modifies the Interior Layout of Its Embraer E195-E2 Fleet

On December 6th, the first Embraer E195-E2 aircraft with the new interior layout took off from KLM Cityhopper to Porto. This step marks the start of a modernization that will cover all 22 aircraft of this model, with the installation of four additional Economy Class seats. The company aims to transport more passengers and increase revenue, while maintaining more favorable sustainability levels.

More Seats and Lower Impact Per Person

The capacity increases from 132 to 136 occupants. The expansion allows for a 3% reduction in CO₂ emissions per customer compared to the previous layout. According to the plan, the conversion will be completed before June 2026, at a pace of one aircraft every five working days. The aircraft stationed at Twente will also receive the renewed design before returning to service.

Changes in Galley and Logistics for Greater Efficiency

The adjustment is achieved by reducing the galley area and adopting a different method of organizing supplies. This redesign implies less onboard mass per flight. The airline will apply the new provisioning process across the entire fleet, which will allow for an annual reduction of 5 million kilograms in catering weight and a potential savings of up to 160,000 kilograms of fuel per year.

Staff Involvement and Passenger Experience

KLM Cityhopper employees have collaborated in this improvement to ensure a practical cabin for the crew. Despite the changes, the level of comfort and onboard offerings remain unchanged, according to official information.

With more seats, less weight, and more efficient use of resources, KLM Cityhopper combines operational performance with lower environmental impact. The company thus moves toward a more profitable service model in line with the sector’s current objectives.
