SAS and WestJet have strengthened their commercial relationship through a codeshare agreement that expands travel options between Scandinavia and Canada. The partnership increases flexibility for passengers and facilitates connections across both airlines’ networks, utilizing Toronto Pearson Airport and SAS’s key gateways in the United States.
The agreement allows SAS travelers to connect to Canada with a single booking and checked luggage through to their final destination. On the Canadian side, WestJet customers can quickly reach Copenhagen, as well as Oslo and Stockholm, taking advantage of SAS’s extensive European network.
Paul Verhagen, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of SAS, highlighted the significance of the agreement: “The expanded partnership with WestJet is an important step in bringing Scandinavia and Canada even closer together. It strengthens our hub in Copenhagen and offers travelers more options and a smoother journey. It expands our joint offering and creates new opportunities within our combined networks.”

Strengthening a Strategic Route
SAS operates more flights between Scandinavia and Canada than any other airline. Its direct, year-round service between Copenhagen and Toronto ensures a stable link for transatlantic travelers. This reliability is backed by its operational performance: in 2025, the airline has been recognized twice as the world’s most punctual and has received four European punctuality awards so far this year.
More Destinations and a Seamless Experience
Thanks to the agreement, SAS passengers can reach over ten Canadian cities from Toronto, including Vancouver, Calgary, and Halifax. Everything is managed on a single ticket, with baggage transferred directly.
WestJet users, in turn, gain smooth access to Scandinavia and numerous European points via SAS’s Copenhagen hub. Both companies are also working on cooperation between their loyalty programs, which will add benefits for EuroBonus and WestJet Rewards members.
John Weatherill, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of WestJet, emphasized the value for passengers: “Deepening our commercial connection with SAS provides seamless links for travelers on both sides of the ocean. With growing demand in Canada to explore Northern Europe, we are proud to make the journey easier for them. We are excited to partner with a world-class airline like SAS and to move toward greater connectivity in 2026.”
Expansion Planned for 2026
The collaboration will continue to grow next year with the addition of WestJet’s Halifax-Copenhagen route, which will begin operations in May. The goal is to strengthen the link between Canada’s Atlantic coast and the Nordic region, offering more flexibility and new possibilities for travelers on both continents.
