Lessor Aviation Capital Group (ACG) announced this Tuesday a new firm order for 50 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, consisting of 25 737-8 and 25 737-10 units, significantly strengthening its order book.
The agreement not only increases the total volume of aircraft ordered but also solidifies ACG as the largest lessor of the 737-10 worldwide, a key variant for airlines seeking greater capacity without sacrificing the operational efficiency of the MAX.
An Order That Reinforces ACG’s Growth Strategy
With this acquisition, ACG’s order book for the Boeing 737 MAX rises to 121 aircraft, including 50 firm orders for the 737-10. This move aligns with the lessor’s growth strategy and its focus on next-generation, fuel-efficient aircraft.
Thomas Baker, President and CEO of Aviation Capital Group, was explicit in highlighting the strategic value of the deal: “This additional order for 737 MAX aircraft enhances the strategic value of ACG’s order book, supports a key pillar of our growth strategy, and reinforces our commitment to the latest fuel-efficiency technology.”
A particularly relevant point for client airlines is the delivery schedule, as ACG will be able to offer continuous delivery slots between 2026 and 2033, a critical asset in a context of tight production and high demand for narrow-body aircraft.

737-8 and 737-10: Operational Flexibility for Short and Medium Haul
The order combines two complementary variants within the MAX family:
- The 737-8, considered the program’s “workhorse,” ideal for short and medium-haul routes with high efficiency.
- The 737-10, the highest-capacity version, designed to maximize revenue per seat while maintaining competitive operating costs.
This duality allows ACG to offer its clients key operational flexibility, adapting to both medium-density markets and high-demand routes where the 737-10 positions itself as a direct alternative to larger aircraft, but with lower unit costs.
Boeing’s Perspective: Renewed Confidence in the 737-10
The message from the manufacturer was clear. Brad McMullen, Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing at Boeing, underscored the relevance of the order: “ACG’s expanded order for the 737-10 reflects strong confidence in the airplane and its appeal to lessor customers worldwide.”
Boeing also highlighted the long-term relationship with ACG within the 737 MAX program and anticipated a deepening of this alliance as the first 737-10 deliveries to the lessor begin.
Weight of Lessors in the 737 MAX Order Book
The announcement once again highlights the strategic role of lessors in the current market. According to data from the manufacturer itself, lessors have ordered nearly 1,300 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, representing approximately one-fifth of the program’s total order book.
For Boeing, this implies a highly diversified and resilient customer base. For airlines, it means access to a modern fleet without taking on the direct financial risk of purchase.
ACG: Global Scale and Multisector Reach
Aviation Capital Group positions itself as one of the world’s leading managers of aviation assets. As of September 30, 2025, the company had approximately 470 aircraft owned, managed, and on order, leased to about 90 airlines in nearly 50 countries.
Its business model encompasses not only commercial leasing but also asset management services and aviation finance solutions for third parties, amplifying the impact of decisions like this new order on the global airline ecosystem.
A Point to Follow: Certification and Entry into Service of the 737-10
Although the announcement reinforces confidence in the program, the certification of the 737-10 does not yet have a concrete date, a critical aspect for operators and lessors. The effective entry into service of this variant will be a determining factor in fully capitalizing on the value of this order in the coming years.
