Etihad Airways has announced the launch of flights to Luxembourg, marking a historic milestone as it becomes the first Middle Eastern airline to serve the country. When the route begins operations on October 29, 2026, Etihad will also become the only airline offering non-stop flights between Luxembourg and Abu Dhabi.
This announcement is part of Etihad’s European expansion strategy and responds to growing demand for direct connectivity to and from Luxembourg, as well as from neighboring regions such as Benelux, France, and Germany—markets that have historically relied on alternative hubs to access the Middle East and Asia.
A Route Designed for High-Value Niches
Three Weekly Frequencies with the Airbus A321LR
The operation will consist of three weekly flights, utilizing the Airbus A321LR, a key aircraft in Etihad’s new growth phase. This model, added to the fleet last year, enables the airline to launch long-range routes in lower-density markets while maintaining a distinctly premium product offering.
Etihad’s A321LR features a three-class configuration, uncommon in this segment:
- First Suites
- Business Class with fully reclining seats and direct aisle access
- New-generation Economy, with enhanced space, 4K touchscreens, Bluetooth connectivity, and high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the aircraft
This combination positions the Luxembourg–Abu Dhabi route as the most premium direct travel option between the Grand Duchy and the United Arab Emirates, a particularly relevant point for corporate and government traffic.

Luxembourg as a Strategic Regional Market
Beyond its size, Luxembourg is one of Europe’s most significant financial centers, with a strong institutional and corporate presence. Etihad emphasizes that the new service will enhance connectivity for both business and leisure travelers, while strengthening economic and cultural ties between the European Union and the UAE.
Luxembourg Airport also serves as a natural gateway to regions in France, Germany, and Belgium, expanding the real catchment area of the new route and reinforcing Etihad’s presence on the European continent.
Abu Dhabi as a Global Hub
From Abu Dhabi, passengers will access Etihad’s global network via Zayed International Airport, with seamless connections to key destinations in Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, and India, among others.
Simultaneously, the airline aims to capitalize on the emirate’s tourist appeal. The new route will facilitate access to top-tier cultural and leisure attractions, such as:
- Louvre Abu Dhabi
- Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
- Zayed National Museum and the Natural History Museum
- Yas Island and its entertainment complexes
All complemented by beaches, desert landscapes, and year-round sunny weather.
Etihad’s Vision: Selective Connectivity and Premium Product
Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways, highlighted that the route is made possible by the A321LR, an aircraft that allows the airline to serve previously unserved markets without compromising the brand’s premium experience. According to the executive, the new link goes beyond air connectivity and seeks to create new bridges for trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between Europe and the United Arab Emirates.
The Luxembourg announcement confirms a clear trend in the industry: long-range single-aisle aircraft are redefining international connectivity maps. Etihad uses the A321LR not as a substitute for its wide-body fleet, but as a strategic tool to open selective, high-value, lower-risk routes.
