The Dutch carrier KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has officially completed the integration of its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet with the arrival of its final unit, christened “Krokus”. With this milestone, the company consolidates one of the most significant fleet transformations in its recent history, focused on operational efficiency, passenger comfort, and long-term sustainability.

A Dreamliner Fleet Built Over More Than a Decade

The history of the Dreamliner at KLM began more than ten years ago with the arrival of the first Boeing 787-9, registered under the name “Zonnebloem”. Since then, the fleet has grown progressively to reach its final configuration:

  • 13 Boeing 787-9
  • 15 Boeing 787-10

In total, 28 Dreamliner aircraft now make up a seamless, modern fleet optimized for long-haul operations.

KLM Takes Strategic Step in Connectivity: Free WiFi on European Flights

The Boeing 787-10, the highest-capacity variant, made its KLM debut in 2019 when the first model, “Oranjebloesem,” arrived just 100 days before the airline’s centenary. This timing was no coincidence; it symbolized the connection between KLM’s century-old tradition and its commitment to the future of aviation.

Boeing 787-10: Increased Capacity and a Distinctive Cabin Experience

The 787-10 has become a cornerstone of KLM’s long-haul strategy. According to the company, this model stands out for several technical and design attributes directly aimed at the passenger experience:

  • Intelligent cabin design
  • Larger windows, a hallmark feature of the Dreamliner program
  • A more spacious interior, which enhances the perception of comfort during long-duration flights

These elements do not merely address commercial criteria, but also a clear market trend: offering greater well-being on board without sacrificing operational efficiency.

As an interesting detail that reinforces the symbolic weight of the model, a miniature replica of the KLM Dreamliner has been on display since 2016 at Madurodam, the Dutch theme park dedicated to representing national milestones in miniature.

With the arrival of this final aircraft, KLM confirms that it now possesses a modern and efficient Dreamliner fleet, designed to serve its passengers throughout the coming decades.
