LATAM Announces Nonstop Flights Between São Paulo and Punta Cana Starting in July

LATAM Airlines Brasil confirmed that starting July 2, 2026, it will begin operating direct flights between São Paulo/Guarulhos and Punta Cana, one of the Caribbean’s most popular leisure destinations. The route will operate with five weekly frequencies, and tickets will be available starting January 13 through the company’s website.

This change is significant not only because of the destination itself, but also because of what it eliminates: until now, Brazilian passengers had to connect via Lima to reach Punta Cana within the group’s network. Under the new scheme, LATAM simplifies the itinerary, reduces travel times, and improves the customer experience in a market highly sensitive to convenience.

Network Optimization and the Impact of TUUA in Peru

The addition of this route is not an isolated move. It is part of a process to optimize LATAM’s regional network, directly linked to operational adjustments following the implementation of TUUA (Unified Transfer Airport Usage Fee) in Peru.

LATAM Consolidates 34 Consecutive Months as Brazil’s Aviation Leader, ANAC say

This new fee structure in Lima has led the group to redistribute capacity, prioritizing the strengthening of strategic hubs such as Brazil and Colombia. Alongside the announcement of Punta Cana from São Paulo-Guarulhos, LATAM Colombia confirmed the expansion of the Bogotá–Orlando route and the regularization of Bogotá–Curaçao, demonstrating a coherent regional view of the Caribbean and the United States as high-value leisure markets.

Guarulhos as a Pillar of the LATAM System

According to Aline Mafra, Sales and Marketing Director of LATAM Brasil, the new operation “reinforces our commitment to expanding international connectivity from Brazil” and consolidates Guarulhos’ role as one of the group’s main hubs in South America.

This approach is supported by strong figures: in the international market, LATAM maintains its leadership with its own flights from Brazil to 90 destinations abroad, of which 24 are operated nonstop, positioning it as the airline with the greatest international connectivity among those operating in the country.

The announcement of the São Paulo–Punta Cana route is a sign of where the industry in the region is heading: more direct networks, selective hubs, and a focus on efficient connectivity for high-volume leisure markets.
