Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has taken a new step in the operational introduction of its Airbus A350 fleet by confirming that the aircraft will, for the first time, take on a dedicated long-haul role in its intercontinental network. Beginning on March 29, 2026, coinciding with the start of the summer season, the A350 will operate the Zurich–Seoul route, bringing the “SWISS Senses” cabin concept to the Asian market for the first time.
This decision marks a significant milestone from both a commercial and operational perspective, combining a strategic East Asian route with the most modern aircraft joining the Swiss airline’s fleet.
From European debut to Asian long-haul
Following its initial deployments on short- and medium-haul European routes and a first intercontinental debut on Zurich–Boston, SWISS’s A350 is making the definitive leap to long-haul missions. Seoul thus becomes the second long-haul destination served by this model in the upcoming summer schedule, solidifying a progressive and prudent introduction of the new aircraft.
The airline will maintain its current schedule of three weekly frequencies between Zurich and Seoul, with departures on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The South Korean capital has been part of the airline’s network since the summer 2024 season, establishing itself as a relatively recent but strategic destination.

Flights between Zurich and the South Korean capital can be booked from the end of this week, according to the company, anticipating demand that combines corporate traffic, connections, and long-haul tourism.
SWISS Senses: Cabin, lighting, and onboard experience
The central element of this transition is the new SWISS Senses cabin, designed entirely to elevate the passenger experience on long-haul flights. The concept combines:
- Contemporary design and greater privacy in all classes.
- Next-generation human-centric lighting, aimed at reducing the effects of jet lag.
- A calmer cabin environment, designed for overnight and ultra-long-haul flights.
- Enhanced onboard service, with refined gastronomic offerings and details that reinforce the identity of Swiss hospitality, from the welcome drink to landing the following day.
This product, until now limited to Western markets, reaches Asia for the first time with Seoul as its inaugural destination.
Greater efficiency: Almost one hour less flight time
Currently, the Zurich–Seoul route is operated with the Airbus A340, a four-engine aircraft that has historically served the airline on long-range journeys. The replacement by the A350 is not merely symbolic: it also involves tangible operational improvements.
With the new aircraft, the flight time will be reduced to approximately 11 hours and 10 minutes, about 50 minutes less than the current operation. SWISS attributes this improvement to several key technical factors of the A350:
- Lighter structure.
- More powerful and efficient engines.
- Ability to fly at higher altitudes, optimizing route profiles and consumption.
For an airline with a strong focus on efficiency and sustainability, this reduction in time and consumption represents a significant operational advantage.
The introduction of the A350 on the Zurich–Seoul route is not merely an aircraft change. It represents a statement of intent: fleet modernization, premium product enhancement, and operational optimization in a key Asian market. It remains to be seen how the A350’s expansion to other long-haul destinations will evolve—an aspect that, for now, SWISS is keeping under wraps and one that stands out as a point of interest to follow in the coming months.
