Porter Airlines continues to broaden its North American network by adding two strategic airports and three new routes, solidifying its growth in both the Canadian domestic market and the transborder segment to the United States.
The expansion includes the launch of flights to Austin, the relocation of its Chicago operations to O’Hare International Airport, and a new seasonal connection between Ottawa and Deer Lake. These moves come shortly after the announcement of its summer schedule, which already featured nine new routes, new destinations, and increased frequencies.
Austin and Chicago-O’Hare: Steady Steps into the U.S. Market
Toronto–Austin: Year-round service from Toronto Pearson
Starting May 21, Porter will begin year-round flights between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and Toronto Pearson International Airport. The addition of Austin strengthens the airline’s U.S. network and expands connectivity from one of its primary hubs.
Chicago: Relocation to O’Hare and Increased Frequencies
On September 1, Porter will move its Chicago operations from Midway to O’Hare International Airport for flights departing from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. While the airline has operated the Toronto–Chicago route from Billy Bishop since 2008, the shift to O’Hare involves several key strategic elements:
Access to Chicago’s primary airport.
- Increased frequency of up to three daily flights.
- Future potential for connecting itineraries through partner airlines at O’Hare.
- The added benefit of the new U.S. CBP Preclearance facility set to open soon at Billy Bishop.

The implementation of U.S. preclearance in Toronto represents a significant operational advancement, allowing passengers to clear customs and immigration before leaving Canada, thereby streamlining the arrival experience in the United States.
Domestic Expansion: Ottawa–Deer Lake
In the Canadian market, the company will launch a new seasonal service between Ottawa and Deer Lake starting June 10. This route complements existing flights to Deer Lake from Toronto Pearson and Halifax, expanding Porter’s coverage into Newfoundland and Labrador while reinforcing regional connectivity within Canada.
Onboard Product and Fleet: A Consistent Value Proposition
Across all flights, Porter maintains its distinct service offering:
- A cabin configuration with no middle seats.
- Complimentary wine and beer served in glassware.
- Premium snacks included.
Routes operated with the Embraer E195-E2 also feature free, high-speed Wi-Fi for all passengers—a feature that bolsters the product’s competitiveness for both corporate and leisure travelers.
According to Andrew Pierce, Vice President of Network Planning and Reporting at Porter Airlines, the strategy addresses a clear demand for greater connectivity:
“Porter continues to offer more destinations and flights that complement existing schedules and connect travelers across North America through our hubs. Travelers want more options and, when they fly with Porter, they receive a superior level of care and service that makes reaching their destination enjoyable and something to look forward to”.
