TAP Air Portugal has unveiled its strategic roadmap for 2026, highlighted by the launch of a new direct route to Orlando, the introduction of an intermediate service class, and a major offensive in the Brazilian market. The plan, presented by CEO Luís Rodrigues, aims to consolidate the airline’s position as the primary transatlantic bridge to Portugal, strengthening its presence in Porto and elevating the premium onboard experience.
Transatlantic Expansion: Orlando and the U.S. Market
One of the most significant announcements is the inauguration of a direct route between Lisbon and Orlando, scheduled to begin on October 29, 2026, with three weekly flights (Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays). Additionally, the route between Porto and Boston will shift from seasonal to year-round operations.
Brazil: 60 Years of Operations and New Destinations
In 2026, TAP will celebrate six decades of scheduled flights to Brazil, its largest international market. To commemorate this milestone, the carrier will expand its network across the South American giant:
New Routes:
- Lisbon – Curitiba: Starting July 2, 2026, with three weekly frequencies operated by Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
- Lisbon – São Luís do Maranhão: Beginning October 26, 2026, with two weekly flights operated by the Airbus A321LR.
In Southern Brazil, routes to Porto Alegre and Florianópolis will add a fourth weekly frequency starting in the summer.
«TAP com Norte»: A Strategic Bet on Porto
Under the strategy dubbed “TAP com Norte” (TAP with the North), the airline will significantly increase connectivity from Porto Airport:
- New destinations from Porto: Terceira (July 1), Praia (July 2), and Tel Aviv (October 25).
- Infrastructure: A strategic investment of 20 million euros was announced for the construction of a Maintenance Hub in Porto, which will generate approximately 200 skilled jobs.
Product Evolution: New Cabin and Onboard Experience
By the summer of 2026, TAP will introduce a new intermediate cabin positioned between Business Class and Economy Class. This product will be available on the Airbus A330 and Airbus A321LR fleets.
Features of the new class:
- Exclusivity: 12 seats designed for enhanced privacy.
- Premium Services: Priority check-in, baggage handling, and boarding, as well as fast-track access.
- Gastronomy: Premium menus with pre-selection, accompanied by a new list of 55 Portuguese wines representing nine wine-growing regions.
- Additional Benefits: Exclusive amenity kits, premium headphones, and increased mileage accrual.
Short and Medium-Haul Network Connectivity
The airline will also see notable increases in its regional network. Starting July 1, the Lisbon – Athens route will operate five weekly flights, utilizing Airbus A320neo aircraft in the summer and Embraer E190s in the winter. Furthermore, flights to Tel Aviv from Lisbon will commence on March 29.
With this ambitious plan, TAP Air Portugal approaches 2026 with a sustainable expansion strategy focused on highlighting its national identity and the continuous improvement of the passenger experience.
