Alaska Airlines has presented its new International Business Class experience, marking a milestone in its transformation into the premier global carrier of the U.S. West Coast. This launch, scheduled for this spring, coincides with the company’s expansion into strategic destinations in Europe and Asia using its fleet of Dreamliner aircraft.
A New Standard of Comfort on the Boeing 787-9
The new Alaska Airlines Business Class has been designed to offer the characteristic warmth and hospitality of the West Coast on long-haul flights. Key features of the suites include:
- Privacy and Space: Fully lie-flat suites (180° recline) featuring privacy doors, direct aisle access, and lounge-style seating.
- Onboard Technology: 18-inch High Definition (HD) entertainment screens with over 1,500 titles, noise-canceling headphones, personal power outlets, and wireless charging.
- Next-Generation Connectivity: Starting this autumn, the airline will install Starlink—the fastest Wi-Fi service on the market—across its 787-9 fleet.
- Rewards Integration: Thanks to a partnership with T-Mobile, Atmos™ Rewards members will be able to access the service free of charge.
Gastronomy: A Culinary Journey from West Coast to the World
Alaska Airlines’ gastronomic proposal seeks to replicate the quality of a high-end restaurant. The service begins with a sophisticated charcuterie and cheese board—an evolution of its iconic Signature Fruit & Cheese Platter—paired with premium wines such as Stag’s Leap and Champagne Roederer, as well as Stumptown coffee.
The main offering includes up to six main course options customized by route. For instance, passengers flying to Rome can enjoy roasted chicken with pasta carbonara, while the Seoul route will feature Gochujang chicken with traditional banchan. Additionally, the airline has partnered with award-winning Seattle chef Brady Ishiwata Williams to include his Klingemann Farms short rib dish. The service concludes with a dessert cart offering customizable sundaes from the Salt & Straw brand.
Local Partnerships and Premium Amenities
To ensure rest, Alaska Airlines collaborated with the iconic Pacific Northwest brand, Filson, to design the bedding and amenity kits.
- Rest: Passengers will receive a quilted mattress pad, lumbar support pillows, and an oversized duvet.
- Amenity Kits: These include Salt & Stone skincare products and a reusable water bottle developed with PATH Water.
- Ground Experience: Business Class travelers will have access to Alaska Lounges and oneworld partner VIP lounges worldwide.
International Network Expansion and oneworld
This launch comes as Alaska Airlines celebrates five years as a member of the oneworld alliance, allowing its passengers to connect to more than 900 global destinations.
The schedule for new international routes from Seattle (SEA) is as follows:
- Seoul: Beginning in April.
- Rome: Beginning April 28.
- London: Beginning May 21.
- Reykjavik: Beginning May 28 (operated by Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft with a tailored premium configuration).
- Tokyo: Scheduled for this autumn.
With the introduction of these new suites and the expansion of its long-haul network, Alaska Airlines reinforces its leadership in Seattle and redefines its value proposition in the international market, competing directly with a premium offering that combines cutting-edge technology, signature gastronomy, and West Coast cultural identity.
