Binter Celebrates 37 Years of Commitment to Canary Islands Connectivity

Binter is commemorating its 37th anniversary, consolidated as the leading airline in the Canary Islands. The carrier is reaffirming its commitment to social cohesion and the economic development of the archipelago through an operation set to reach historic milestones during 2026. Since its founding in 1989, the company has transported over 96.6 million passengers, operating a total of 115 routes across 65 airports.

A Trajectory of Growth and Regional Commitment

Binter’s history saw a strategic turning point in 2002 when it was acquired by a group of Canarian entrepreneurs. Their objective was to guarantee a high-quality air transport service, essential for the well-being of the islands’ residents. This vision has allowed the company not only to dominate the inter-island market but also to expand its reach internationally.

Currently, the airline maintains a robust operation that includes:

2026 Outlook: Expansion and New Routes

For the current year 2026, Binter has projected significant capacity growth. The airline will offer a total of 8.7 million seats, representing an 8% increase compared to the previous year. Of this total, 71% of the slots will be dedicated to strengthening transport between the islands.

One of the most significant milestones of this anniversary is the inauguration of the Lanzarote-Santander route on March 31. This move is historic for the company, as it represents the first direct domestic route operated from a non-capital island.

Socioeconomic Impact and Service Excellence

Beyond passenger transport, Binter has driven the creation of a business ecosystem comprising 17 companies specialized in various branches of the aviation sector. This system not only diversifies the local economy but also supports a workforce of over 2,900 highly qualified professionals.

The quality of service has been internationally recognized by several organizations:

Culture and Anniversary: Legacy of César Manrique

To celebrate these 37 years of history, the airline has reinforced its bond with Canarian identity through art. At its headquarters in Gran Canaria, a reproduction of the mobile sculpture “Energía de la pirámide” (Pyramid Energy), a work by César Manrique, has been unveiled.

This installation is the result of a collaboration agreement signed in 2025 with the César Manrique Foundation. The event was attended by key figures including Binter President Rodolfo Núñez and the foundation’s director, Fernando Gómez Aguilera, symbolizing the union between aeronautical innovation and the islands’ cultural heritage.

With this anniversary, Binter not only celebrates its past but positions itself for a future of greater connectivity, maintaining its vocation for public service as the central pillar of its strategy.
