Bridges Air Cargo has reached a major milestone in the logistics industry by deploying the first Embraer E-Freighter in Europe, conducting its inaugural commercial flight between Germany and Cyprus. This aircraft, designed to bridge the gap between turboprops and larger narrowbody freighters, enhances network solutions for the shipping sector across the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) region.
Inaugural Flight and Operational Expansion
The first unit of this model successfully completed its maiden commercial mission, departing from Cologne (Germany) bound for Larnaca (Cyprus), carrying express delivery materials. The aircraft will operate under the Bridges Worldwide umbrella, utilizing an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) registered in Malta, which provides the necessary legal and operational framework for the advancement of the E190F fleet.
Guy Bridges, CEO of Bridges Group, noted that the company has spent the last 12 months developing custom containers and specific handling systems for this model. According to the executive, the Embraer 190F is expected to play a pivotal role by offering a cargo capacity of between 8 and 12 tons.
Strategic Alliance and the Conversion Program
The entry into service is the result of close collaboration between Embraer, Bridges Air Cargo, and Regional One. George Mamangakis, Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Regional One, described the event as a testament to the strength of their partnership and reaffirmed confidence in the platform’s ability to deliver competitive solutions throughout the EMEA region.
For his part, Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, congratulated the airline on this achievement and reaffirmed the Brazilian manufacturer’s commitment to ensuring the highest levels of performance and reliability in the cargo market.
Reflecting the growth of this program, Embraer and Regional One expanded their original agreement in 2025, doubling the initial order of two Passenger-to-Freighter (P2F) conversions to a total of four aircraft.
Technical Specifications and Competitive Advantages
The E190F was launched to meet the evolving demands of e-commerce and modern trade, which require rapid deliveries and decentralized operations toward secondary and tertiary markets. Embraer’s P2F conversion program offers significant advantages over previous-generation models:
- Volumetric Capacity: Converted E-Jets offer over 40% more volume capacity compared to their passenger versions.
- Range: They possess three times the range of large cargo turboprops.
- Operating Costs: They feature operating costs up to 30% lower than larger narrowbody aircraft.
- Payload: By combining underfloor and main deck capacity, the maximum structural payload reaches 13,500 kg.
The successful integration of the first E-Freighter marks the beginning of a new chapter for Bridges Air Cargo and validates the efficiency of the Embraer platform in filling the existing gap in the air cargo market.
