The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) formally granted authorization this Wednesday for American Airlines to reinstate its commercial air services to Venezuela. This measure represents the first concrete step toward the U.S. carrier’s return to the country following an interruption of more than six years.
Operational Details and Authorized Routes
The approval issued by the USDOT allows the airline to operate connections from Miami International Airport (MIA) to two strategic destinations within Venezuelan territory:
- Caracas, the nation’s capital.
- Maracaibo, the primary economic hub of western Venezuela.
According to the official document, the operation will not be conducted directly with American Airlines’ mainline fleet, but rather through its regional carrier, Envoy Air.
With the green light from the USDOT and the recent TSA inspection, the regulatory infrastructure is in place for the return of direct aerial connectivity. The success of the operation will now depend on the final results of safety audits and the airline’s commercial logistics.
