LATAM Airlines Brasil has taken a strategic step in its fleet renewal plan with the induction of its first factory-direct Airbus A321neo in 2026. This milestone coincides with an aggressive operational expansion plan that will increase domestic frequencies by 9% during the first half of the year, strengthening connectivity in key markets and strategic hubs.
Fleet Modernization: Efficiency and Sustainability in the Air
The new Airbus A321neo landed in Fortaleza on February 26 following an 11-hour delivery flight from the Airbus plant in Germany. After completing customs clearance and nationalization procedures, the aircraft was ferried to LATAM’s Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) center in São Carlos for final cabin configurations before entering commercial service.
With this delivery, LATAM Brasil reaches an active fleet of 172 aircraft. Currently, the Brazilian operation is supported by 150 narrow-body aircraft from the Airbus A320 family for domestic flights and 22 Boeing wide-body units for long-haul international routes.
LATAM Group Outlook
At a regional level, the LATAM Group now operates 356 aircraft, distributed among 292 Airbus aircraft, 57 Boeing passenger jets, and 20 freighters. The holding company’s goal is to conclude 2026 with a total fleet of 410 aircraft.

Strategic Diversification: The Entry of Embraer
In a bid for flexibility and regional development, LATAM announced an agreement with Embraer in 2025 for the acquisition of up to 74 E195-E2 aircraft (24 firm orders and 50 options). This $2.1 billion investment will enable:
- Deliveries starting in the fourth quarter of 2026.
- The opening of up to 35 new destinations, adding to the 160 already served.
- Hub optimization, improving connectivity throughout South America.
Domestic Network Expansion in Brazil
The airline projects solid growth for the first half of 2026, with a 9% increase in domestic frequency volume compared to the same period in 2025. The primary focus is on major connection centers:
Reinforcement of Main Hubs
- São Paulo/Guarulhos (GRU): Frequencies to Joinville will increase (from 7 to 14 weekly) and Maringá (from 14 to 21 weekly) starting in May. In April, routes to Porto Seguro and Dourados will also see increases.
- São Paulo/Congonhas (CGH): Expansion of flights to Goiânia, Curitiba, and Belo Horizonte/Confins. The route to Florianópolis will reach 48 weekly flights in April.
- Brasília (BSB): Consolidation as a pivotal hub with increases on routes to Curitiba and Congonhas, the latter reaching 84 weekly flights.
The most notable growth is observed on the Belém–Macapá route, where flight capacity will grow by 166%, moving from 3 to 8 weekly frequencies in April. Additionally, in the southeast, the route between Rio de Janeiro/Galeão and Vitória will increase to 21 weekly flights starting in May.
This expansion and modernization plan underscores LATAM’s commitment to competitive and sustainable aviation, strengthening its leadership in the South American market.
