Air Canada Expands Global Network for Winter 2026-2027: Tenerife Debuts as Star Destination
Air Canada has unveiled an ambitious expansion of its network for the Winter 2026-2027 season, highlighted by the inauguration of the only non-stop service from North America to Tenerife, in the Canary Islands. This strategy, driven by the incorporation of next-generation aircraft, strengthens Canada’s connectivity with key sun destinations in the Caribbean, Mexico, and Europe.
Tenerife: Gateway to the Canary Islands
The airline’s most significant announcement is the direct connection to Tenerife South Airport (TFS) from its hubs in Toronto (YYZ) and Montreal (YUL).
The route will be operated by the new Airbus A321XLR. This model offers a wide-body cabin experience in a narrow-body aircraft, configured with 182 seats: 14 in Signature Class (featuring full lie-flat seats) and 168 in Economy Class.

New Destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean
In addition to its foray into Spain, Air Canada has added four strategic destinations to its route map: Roatán (Honduras), Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), Mérida, and Mazatlán (Mexico).
Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President and Revenue and Network Planning Officer at Air Canada, noted that the expansion from Vancouver toward Central America and Mexico is made possible by the growth of the Airbus A220 fleet and Air Canada Rouge operations.

Strengthening Regional Connectivity in Canada
The airline has not only focused on its primary hubs but has also diversified its offerings from multiple Canadian cities to facilitate access to vacation destinations:
- Vancouver: New non-stop services to Liberia (Costa Rica), Monterrey, and Puerto Escondido (Mexico).
- Calgary: Connections to Cancún and Puerto Vallarta.
- Winnipeg and Edmonton: Routes to Montego Bay (Jamaica) and Punta Cana (Dominican Republic).
- Quebec City and Halifax: Flights to Pointe-à-Pitre (Guadeloupe) and Bridgetown (Barbados), respectively.
With these flights now on sale, Air Canada reaffirms its position as one of the airlines with the most extensive networks on the continent, leveraging A321XLR technology to open markets that were previously not viable for non-stop operations.
