Starting May 18, 2026, Air New Zealand passengers will be able to book the world’s first sleep pods for economy class. The innovative Economy Skynest™ product is set to debut in November 2026, marking an industry milestone aimed at enhancing the passenger experience on the world’s longest routes.
An Innovative Solution for Ultra-Long-Haul
The airline will operate the Skynest aboard its new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. Developed after years of testing with over 200 customers, this concept is specifically designed to make a tangible difference on flights to and from New Zealand, one of the most remote countries on the globe.
Air New Zealand’s Chief Digital Officer, Nikhil Ravishankar, noted that this innovation reflects the country’s practical design capabilities. “By giving more people the opportunity to rest properly on ultra-long-haul flights, we are helping make travel to and from New Zealand more manageable,” the executive stated.

With this launch, Air New Zealand aims to build on the success of previous products like the Skycouch. According to Ravishankar, the initiative responds to the need to offer travelers greater flexibility, comfort, and control, allowing them to choose the way of traveling that best suits their needs.
