Biman Bangladesh Airlines has announced the largest purchase order in its history after selecting 14 aircraft from the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX families. This strategic acquisition will enable the flag carrier to modernize its fleet, expand its international route network, and significantly enhance operational efficiency.
Expansion Focused on Efficiency and Long-Range Capability
The new order is broken down into three specific variants designed to optimize different segments of the airline’s network:
- Eight Boeing 787-10s: This marks Biman’s first order for the largest variant of the Dreamliner family. These aircraft will be deployed on high-demand routes to the Middle East.
- Two Boeing 787-9s: These units will serve to reinforce long-haul services to Europe and North America.
- Four Boeing 737-8s: This represents the company’s first order for the 737 MAX family. These aircraft will efficiently connect Bangladesh with destinations across the Middle East, India, and Southeast Asia.

Kaizer Sohel Ahmed, Managing Director and CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, emphasized that these technologically advanced aircraft will allow the carrier to “fine-tune operational performance and strengthen Bangladesh’s position in the global aviation market.”
Fleet and Network Evolution
Currently, Biman operates a fleet of 14 Boeing aircraft, which includes 787-8, 787-9, and 777 models, as well as 737 Next-Generation (NG) aircraft.
Based in Dhaka, the airline currently flies to 22 international destinations, including major hubs in Southeast Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Its longest route is the service to Toronto, Canada, operated via Istanbul using 787-9 equipment.
With this new order, Boeing and Biman strengthen a strategic partnership aimed at meeting growing regional demand and consolidating a more competitive and sustainable long-haul network.
