Pratt & Whitney GTF Advantage Earns EASA Certification for Airbus A320neo Family

Pratt & Whitney, an RTX business business unit, has reached a strategic milestone following certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for Airbus A320neo family aircraft powered by GTF Advantage™ engines.

Superior Performance and Operational Efficiency

The GTF Advantage™ positions itself as the engine with the lowest fuel consumption for narrow-body aircraft in the current market. According to Rick Deurloo, President of Commercial Engines at Pratt & Whitney, this technological evolution not only extends their leadership in efficiency but also significantly enhances the aircraft’s capability.

Integration and Current Fleet Upgrades

One of the competitive advantages of the GTF Advantage™ is its total interchangeability and intermixability with current GTF models. This engine is expected to become the production standard by 2028.

For operators already utilizing the current version of the PW1100G-JM engine, the company offers the GTF Hot Section Plus (HS+) upgrade. This option, which will be available at the end of this year for incorporation during shop visits, will allow customers to gain between 90% and 95% of the durability benefits found in the Advantage model.

Industrial Investment and Market Presence

To meet robust demand, RTX is executing an ambitious investment plan in its production capabilities:

To date, more than 2,700 GTF-powered aircraft have been delivered to over 90 customers worldwide. Interest in this platform remains steady, accumulating more than 13,000 total orders and commitments. Thanks to its geared architecture, the GTF engine family is projected to accumulate more than 300 million flight hours by the mid-2030s.
