Air Transat has announced a strategic strengthening of its international connectivity for the 2026-2027 winter season. The expansion centers on the launch of a new route to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from its primary Canadian hubs and the enhancement of its service from Quebec City to Rio Hato, Panama.
New Canary Islands Connection from Montreal and Toronto
As part of its winter schedule—set to commence on December 12, 2026, and run through April 4, 2027—the airline will operate weekly flights to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This new route aims to capture demand from travelers seeking a blend of the archipelago’s temperate climate and European cultural heritage.
The planned flight schedule is as follows:
- From Montreal: Scheduled departures on Saturdays.
- From Toronto: Scheduled departures on Sundays.
According to Sebastian Ponce, Chief Revenue Officer at Transat, this destination meets the expectations of travelers searching for fresh experiences, driven by the island’s spectacular beaches and burgeoning culinary scene.
Consolidation in the Spanish Market
With the addition of Gran Canaria, Air Transat reinforces its footprint in the Iberian market, bringing its total to five destinations in Spain. The carrier continues a strategy of diversified and gradual growth, having successfully transitioned most of its mainland operations to year-round service:
- Madrid and Malaga: Established year-round services.
- Barcelona: Recently extended to annual operations.
- Valencia: Now consolidated as a year-round route with a weekly Friday flight during the winter season.
Strategic Growth from Quebec City
The airline has also focused on diversifying its network from Jean Lesage International Airport in Quebec City. Beginning December 20, 2026, and running until April 25, 2027, the carrier will operate a route to Rio Hato, Panama.
This connection will be available once a week on Sundays, responding to sustained demand from Quebec region passengers seeking sun-and-beach alternatives in Central America.
Flights for these new routes are already available for booking. Air Transat is expected to reveal further details regarding its 2026-2027 winter program in the coming weeks, maintaining its position as a leader in the long-haul leisure travel sector.
