Malaysian carrier AirAsia has signed a purchase agreement for 150 Airbus A220-300 aircraft, marking the largest single order in the history of the program and consolidating its expansion across the Asian market. This contract propels the A220 model past the milestone of 1,000 firm orders, reaffirming its global competitiveness.

A Strategic Milestone for Connectivity in Asia

The agreement was officially announced at Airbus’ facility in Mirabel, Canada, attended by Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, CEO of Capital A and Advisor to AirAsia Group, along with Lars Wagner, CEO of Commercial Aircraft at Airbus. The ceremony featured high-level government figures, including Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Quebec Premier Christine Frechette.

This acquisition not only makes AirAsia a new operator of the type but also positions the aircraft as a fundamental pillar for the group’s network growth.
