The Civil Aviation Authority of Colombia (Aerocivil) has formalized its admission to Airports Council International (ACI), a strategic alliance designed to elevate the connectivity, safety, and sustainability standards of the Colombian airport system on the international stage.
A strategic step toward regional competitiveness
The incorporation of the Colombian aeronautical authority into the leading global network of airport operators represents a fundamental milestone for the country’s infrastructure. The central objective of this affiliation is to position Colombia as an undisputed benchmark for efficiency and air traffic management in the region, enabling a direct exchange of technical cooperation and international best practices.
According to Luis Alfonso Martinez Chimenty, Director General of Aerocivil, this alliance acts as a catalyst for economic and regional development. According to the official, the commitment is clear: to accelerate innovation and sustainability processes to ensure a modern and resilient infrastructure, always prioritizing the passenger experience and excellence in operational efficiency.
Pillars of transformation: Safety, technology, and sustainability
Integration with ACI will allow Colombia to address critical challenges through three main axes:
- Innovation and Digital Transformation: The collaboration will facilitate the technological modernization of air terminals, aligning national management with the demands of the 21st-century global market.
- Operational Safety: Protocols in the country’s terminals will be strengthened through access to specialized training programs and high-level technical assistance.
- Decarbonization Strategy: The membership opens doors for Colombian airports to access world-renowned certifications, such as the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA), marking a firm path toward a more environmentally responsible sector.

During the formalization of the link, representatives of ACI Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC), led by Director General Rafael Echevarne and Director of Industry Affairs Francisco Medela, highlighted the prominent role that Colombia plays in the connectivity map of the hemisphere.
