Lufthansa has officially announced the launch of its new service concept, dubbed Future Onboard Experience (FOX), which is set to take effect on May 6 across all long-haul flights. This initiative represents one of the largest investments in the premium customer experience in the airline’s history, spanning every cabin class and aircraft type.
A Strategic Investment in the Passenger Experience
The FOX project is the culmination of two years of development and is built upon three guiding principles: personalization, comfort, and “Signature Moments.” Through this transformation, Lufthansa aims to solidify its position as the leading premium carrier in Europe.
To support this ambition, the company will invest over 70 million euros this year alone. According to Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines, this massive investment coincides with the airline’s centenary and demonstrates a firm commitment to renewing and transforming the brand, even during challenging times. The new service will be rolled out globally, regardless of whether the aircraft features the new Allegris cabin configuration.
Business Class: Culinary Excellence and Flexibility
In Business Class, the primary focus is on elevating the gastronomic offering through several key innovations:
- Haute Cuisine Menus: Chef Johann Lafer has designed new dishes promising top-tier culinary quality and innovative flavor combinations.
- Personalized Breakfast: Passengers can select their breakfast menu (including options like smoothies, French toast, or omelets) the night before to maximize their rest time.
- Sky Selection: A new service allowing passengers to order a second meal at any point during the flight, with offerings ranging from tapas and currywurst to macarons.
- Pâtisserie Service: As part of the “Signature Moments,” a classic-style coffee and cake service will be introduced on board.
- New Tableware: The service equipment has been completely redesigned to complement the premium experience.

Premium Economy Class: Elevated Comfort
For Premium Economy Class passengers, FOX introduces significant upgrades that bridge the gap with higher cabin standards:
- Enhanced Meal Service: The first service will include a Business Class-level appetizer and a choice of three hot main courses, accompanied by fresh bread.
- Wellness Details: For the first time, travelers will receive comfortable slippers, a detail designed to enhance well-being during long-haul flights.
- Beverages and Digestifs: The drink selection has been expanded, the frequency of service increased, and a new offering of digestifs and pastries has been incorporated.
Economy Class: Greater Customization and Amenities
Lufthansa has also introduced substantial changes to Economy Class, focusing on freedom of choice and passenger rest:
- Amenity Kits: For the first time, an amenity kit including a sleep mask and earplugs will be provided.
- Expanded Gastronomy: On flights exceeding ten hours, passengers will be able to choose from three hot main course options instead of the usual two.
- Cabin Modernization: New tableware, trays, and cutlery will be implemented, alongside the distribution of printed menus to improve service communication.
- Beverage Variety: The beverage selection has been significantly expanded for all travelers in this cabin.
The rollout of FOX marks a milestone in Lufthansa’s modernization strategy. Following the launch of the service in First Class at the end of March, the full implementation in Business, Premium Economy, and Economy on May 6 completes a service ecosystem designed to offer greater flexibility and a distinctively German touch at every stage of the journey.
