Air Canada has officially marked the entry into revenue service of its first Airbus A321XLR. This milestone introduces the airline’s new cabin standard and redefines long-haul connectivity using a highly efficient single-aisle aircraft.
Inaugural Flight and Impact on Connectivity
Flight AC413, operated between Montreal and Toronto with 182 passengers on board, kicked off this new operational chapter for the carrier. According to Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President, Revenue and Network Planning, and President of Cargo at Air Canada, the arrival of the Airbus A321XLR represents a transformative moment that begins an exciting era for customers, industry partners, and employees alike, consolidating one of the sector’s most capable fleets.
Before launching its regular, nonstop transatlantic operations between Montreal and Toulouse on June 15, the aircraft will perform various domestic flights within Canada.

Each suite is equipped with a 19-inch 4K OLED Inflight Entertainment (IFE) screen featuring Bluetooth audio connectivity.
- Economy Class: Configured with 168 seats, equipped with 13-inch 4K OLED IFE screens and wireless Bluetooth audio support.

Long-Term Fleet Modernization Plan
The induction of this aircraft represents the latest step in Air Canada’s multi-year fleet modernization program, focused on enhancing passenger experience, operational resilience, and fuel efficiency. The airline plans to progressively integrate a total of 30 Airbus A321XLR aircraft (15 through lease agreements and 15 acquired directly from Airbus) to manage seasonal demand and optimize new commercial opportunities.
This disciplined growth, aligned with its business plan, is complemented by additional widebody and narrowbody orders that bolster its future strategy:
- An order for 14 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner aircraft.
- An order for 8 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft.
- The scheduled delivery of Canadian-built Airbus A220s, with 21 units remaining to be delivered from a firm order of 65 aircraft.
- The addition of 5 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft that have already been formally delivered during 2026.
With the deployment of the Airbus A321XLR, Air Canada solidifies its prudent expansion strategy by balancing operational flexibility, environmental sustainability, and premium comfort.
