A Milestone in Connectivity with Africa and Iceland
With the opening of the Senegalese destination, Air Transat unlocks an unprecedented market for the Canadian aviation sector. Sebastian Ponce, Chief Revenue Officer at Transat, highlighted the strategic value of these launches for the carrier’s network:
“These two launches mark a significant milestone in the diversification of our network and reflect our ambition to open new doors to the world. With Dakar, we are pioneers, becoming the first airline to offer a direct connection between Canada and Sub-Saharan Africa. With Reykjavik, we are facilitating access to a spectacular and high-demand destination.”
Ponce added that these routes not only promote nature and experiential tourism but also strengthen pre-existing ties between the respective communities.
Most Extensive Summer Schedule in Air Transat’s History
These two routes are an integral part of Air Transat’s Summer 2026 schedule, solidifying it as the company’s most ambitious to date. The airline aims to respond to market demand through a strategy that includes the debut of eight new routes, the conversion of certain seasonal services into year-round operations, and increased frequencies across its key destinations to maximize connectivity options for its passengers.
