Dominican carrier Arajet recorded the strongest May in its history in terms of passenger volume. By moving more than 183,000 total passengers across its regional network, the airline has solidified its status as a key player in the Caribbean market, capturing over 10% of all travelers entering or leaving the country.
Record Passenger Volume and Market Positioning
According to official data published in the Civil Aviation Board’s (JAC) statistical dashboard, Arajet transported more than 163,000 point-to-point passengers to and from the Dominican Republic during May 2026, a figure that excludes connecting traffic.
This operational volume allowed the airline to achieve key milestones within the industry:
- Market Share Exceeding 10%: The airline accounted for more than a tenth of all international passengers passing through Dominican airports during the month.
- Third Position in the Global Market: Arajet established itself as the third-largest airline by passenger traffic in the country, surpassed only by U.S. carriers JetBlue and American Airlines.
- Driven by Connections: When factoring in passengers transiting through its operational hubs, total traffic exceeded 183,000 passengers, setting a new monthly record for the company.

Absolute Dominance Among Domestic Operators
JAC statistics also reflect the growing prominence and strengthening of airlines based in the Dominican Republic. Combined, local carriers transported a total of 176,201 passengers during May.
The distribution of international traffic among local operators highlights Arajet’s undisputed leadership within the domestic industry:
| Airline | Domestic Market Share (May 2026) |
|---|---|
| Arajet | 94% |
| Skyhigh | 4% |
| Air Century | 2% |
Strategic Markets and Key Routes
The strength of Arajet’s regional connectivity network is reflected in the performance of its top destinations across the Americas. During May, Buenos Aires stood out as the airline’s highest-volume route.
The list of top-performing strategic destinations includes:
- Buenos Aires
- New York
- Miami
- Medellín
- Bogotá
Market Concentration
A geographical analysis of passenger traffic shows that three countries account for nearly 60% of the airline’s total operations:
- United States: Remains the leading market, accounting for approximately 23% of passengers.
- Argentina: Holds the second spot with 18% of traffic.
- Colombia: Ranks third with 17%.
These results reflect Arajet’s sustained growth and the maturation of its business model. Through the development of integrated hub operations in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana, the airline continues to strengthen the region’s commercial aviation infrastructure, consolidating the Dominican Republic as a strategic air connectivity hub for the entire Americas.
