Dominican carrier Arajet has marked a new milestone in its regional growth strategy by taking delivery of its 16th aircraft at Cibao International Airport. This latest addition not only bolsters the ultra-low-cost carrier’s (ULCC) operational capacity but also paves the way for the launch of scheduled operations from the northern terminal starting in 2027.
Fleet Expansion and Regional Connectivity
The new aircraft has been named “Pico Diego de Ocampo,” a designation that aligns with the airline’s philosophy of leveraging its fleet to promote and showcase the primary environmental and cultural landmarks of the Dominican Republic.
The arrival of this aircraft will enable the carrier to:
- Increase Operational Capacity: Efficiently meet the growing passenger demand across the Americas.
- Consolidate the Caribbean Hub: Strengthen the country’s air connectivity with the rest of the Americas, positioning the Dominican Republic as the region’s most dynamic aviation hub.
- Support Economic Development: Drive new opportunities for national tourism and international trade.

Northern Dominican Republic in Expansion Plans
The aircraft reception ceremony was attended by a prominent delegation led by members of the Cibao Airport Board of Directors, including Vice President José Clase, Ricardo Fondeur, and Juan Ureña. The presence of the airport authorities underscores the strategic importance of this step for the country’s northern region.
Manuel Luna, Chief Communications Officer (CCO) of Arajet, emphasized the medium-term impact this growth will have on connectivity for the northern zone:
“With the incorporation of our 16th aircraft, we continue to expand our fleet capacity to keep connecting the Dominican Republic with more destinations across the Americas. Furthermore, with the scheduled arrival of nine additional aircraft between this year and next, we project the launch of regular scheduled operations from Cibao International Airport in 2027.”
Sustainability and Tribute to Dominican Biodiversity
In line with its corporate identity policy inspired by the country’s natural treasures, the chosen name pays tribute to the Pico Diego de Ocampo Natural Monument.
This peak, geographically situated between the provinces of Santiago and Puerto Plata, is one of the most significant protected areas in the Cordillera Septentrional mountain range.
The Dominican flag carrier’s expansion plan forecasts a steady stream of short-term deliveries. Anticipating the arrival of nine additional aircraft between the remainder of this year and next, Arajet is not only consolidating its current route network but also securing the operational muscle required to decentralize its services. This establishes a solid base at Cibao Airport for the year 2027, comprehensively boosting both local tourism and the Caribbean corporate travel market.
