This route adds to the airline’s existing operations in Portugal, where it already offers two weekly flights between Lisbon and Hangzhou (the capital of Zhejiang province).
Competitive Advantage in the Long-Haul Market
The resumption of this service comes amid an expansion phase for Beijing Daxing International Airport, which has added direct routes to European destinations such as Helsinki, Frankfurt, and Milan since the beginning of the year.
This development highlights the growing competitiveness of Chinese carriers on Asia-Europe routes. Unlike European airlines, which are barred from Russian airspace due to sanctions imposed following the invasion of Ukraine, Chinese carriers continue to operate through these corridors. This allows them to fly shorter routings and offer lower-cost services, granting them a significant competitive advantage over their European counterparts.
