China Airlines Unveils New Premium Economy Class for Boeing 787 Fleet

China Airlines has revealed a complete redesign of its Premium Economy Class cabin aboard its upcoming fleet of Boeing 787 passenger aircraft. The new product aims to blur the line with Business Class, seamlessly blending Taiwanese cultural identity with cutting-edge technology to deliver an elevated experience on long-haul flights.

Oriental Aesthetics and the “Starlit Mountain City” Concept

The airline has refreshed its cabin interiors while remaining true to its “Oriental Aesthetics” design philosophy, incorporating elements that evoke the warmth of home through local landscapes and cultural motifs.

The Boeing 787 Premium Economy cabin is specifically inspired by the “Starlit Mountain City” concept. Through a curated selection of colors, premium materials, and a sophisticated play of light and shadow, the carrier seeks to convey the energy and hospitality of Taiwanese cities.

Seat Configuration and Ergonomics

The new cabin will feature 28 seats arranged in a spacious 2-3-2 configuration. Key features of the hard product include:

Cutting-Edge Technology and IFE Innovation

In-flight connectivity and entertainment (IFE) have received a significant technological overhaul, positioning the airline at the forefront of the industry:

Premium Experience and In-flight Services

With the goal of elevating the Premium Economy experience closer to Business Class standards, China Airlines has optimized every touchpoint of the passenger journey, from the airport check-in counter to the catering service.

Passengers will enjoy enhanced value-added amenities, including lightweight chinaware, individually wrapped napkins, two-tone blankets, slippers, and over-ear noise-canceling headphones. Furthermore, complimentary Wi-Fi featuring unlimited web browsing and messaging will be provided, matching the service levels found in Business Class.

Lifestyle Partnerships

For its premium amenity kits, the airline has partnered with New York fashion house Marc Jacobs and Danish furniture, skincare, and lifestyle brand FRAMA.

Official Debut at COMPUTEX 2026

The physical unveiling of the new seats took place at the COMPUTEX 2026 technology trade show, specifically inside the COMPUTEX Service Lounge—a public design space co-created by China Airlines, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), and GQ Taiwan.

The event, held at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Hall 2 from June 2 to 5, was officially inaugurated by China Airlines Chairman Kao Shing-Hwang and President Kevin Chen. Throughout the exhibition, credentialed exhibitors, international buyers, VIP media, and trade show staff were able to experience the comfort of the new seats firsthand, while the airline hosted afternoon workshops for industry professionals focusing on its passenger and cargo service philosophies.
