Copa Airlines Restores Its Venezuela Network: Resumes Flights to Barcelona

Copa Airlines reinstated its flights between Panama City and Barcelona, Anzoátegui state, on Tuesday, achieving the full recovery of its destinations network in Venezuela in just six months. The reactivation of this route not only restores direct international connectivity to the eastern region of the country, but also repositions the Venezuelan market among the airline’s most important in the region.

Strategic Return of the Hub of the Americas to Eastern Venezuela

The reactivation of this air link restores three weekly frequencies operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. With this restart, Barcelona is once again connected to the continent through the Hub of the Americas in Panama City, where the carrier offers access to more than 85 destinations across 32 countries.

The route, which originally launched on June 30, 2022, had been suspended since August 2024.

Regional Positioning and Operational Capacity

With the inclusion of Barcelona, Venezuela solidifies its position within the Copa Airlines network by offering five served cities (alongside Caracas, Maracaibo, Valencia, and Barquisimeto). This places the country on par with Mexico and ranks it as the airline’s fourth-largest market by number of destinations in Latin America, surpassed only by the United States, Colombia, and Brasil.

Increased Capacity and Frequencies

“Barcelona is key to our regional connectivity. Our strength lies in connecting passengers better, not just flying, by offering more destinations, shorter travel times, and a reliable passenger experience. This gradual approach always prioritizes safety, regularity, and operational sustainability,” said Roberto Pulido, Copa Airlines General Manager for Venezuela.

Competitive Advantages and Travel Optimization

The connection infrastructure in Panama allows travelers from eastern and southern Venezuela to access more than 385 daily flights, with average connection times ranging between 50 and 90 minutes.

One of the primary advantages of this service is the optimization of the travel process: passengers check their baggage just once in Barcelona and receive it directly at their final destination, without the need to clear mandatory immigration or customs during the layover in Panama. This facilitates seamless connections to key markets, such as the 17 active destinations in the United States and more than 20 destinations in the Caribbean.

Copa Airlines marks 28 years of uninterrupted operations in Venezuela, backed by an award-winning on-time performance record for 11 consecutive years. In addition to connectivity, the airline maintains exclusive benefits for the Venezuelan market, including its ConnectMiles frequent flyer program and the Panama Stopover program, which allows passengers to make a stopover in Panama ranging from 1 to 15 days at no additional airfare cost, providing access to special benefits and discounts at partner shops and hotels.
