First Iberia Aircraft Equipped with Starlink High-Speed Free Wi-Fi Takes Off

Iberia has become the first Spanish airline to introduce Starlink’s satellite connectivity system across its fleet.

On Tuesday night, the first Iberia aircraft equipped with Starlink’s advanced technology took off from Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport. The aircraft, an Airbus A330-300 registered as EC-MAA, operated flight IB3267 to São Paulo. With this operational milestone, the carrier consolidates its position as the pioneer in Spain to integrate the satellite connectivity network developed by SpaceX.

Unlike traditional inflight connectivity, Starlink’s infrastructure operates via a constellation of thousands of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. This technological architecture guarantees a faster and more stable signal, specifically engineered to support multiple connected devices simultaneously and ensure a seamless experience for all passengers onboard.

Iberia Launches Direct Flights Between Madrid and Toronto

Gate-to-Gate Performance and Speeds of up to 500 Mbps

The new satellite system not only enhances stability but also matches domestic connectivity standards, transforming flight time for both leisure and business travelers:

“We are delighted to become the first Spanish airline to offer the fastest inflight internet connection on the market. We know how important it is for our customers to stay connected during the flight, whether they are traveling for business or leisure, and thanks to this new service we are going to significantly enhance their onboard experience,” highlighted Beatriz Guillén, Iberia’s Customer Director. The executive added that this project reflects the airline’s steadfast commitment to innovation and digitalization.

A Strategic Pillar Within the Flight Plan 2030

This technological breakthrough was made possible following the strategic agreement that International Airlines Group (IAG) signed with Starlink last November. The integration of the world’s most advanced satellite constellation aligns directly with the company’s digital objectives.

Iberia’s roadmap for the coming years outlines a massive financial deployment, with investments totaling €6 billion. These funds will be allocated as a priority to the modernization and competitiveness of the airline in the following key areas:

With the rollout of this high-speed service, Iberia optimizes its value proposition on its long-haul routes and sets the benchmark for the digital transformation of the Spanish airline industry.
