LATAM Airlines Brasil commenced direct operations this Monday between São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport and Brussels, Belgium. This new connection positions the carrier as the sole airline operating a nonstop link between both nations, marking its 10th direct destination on the European continent.
An International Connectivity Milestone for the Guarulhos Hub
The inaugural flight recorded a 100% load factor, consolidating the airline’s arrival at its 27th direct international destination from the South American nation. The route not only expands travel options but also reinforces the role of the concessionaire GRU Airport as Latin America’s primary hub.
The established frequency for this link consists of three weekly flights operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from Brazil, with return flights departing Belgium on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Company and airport terminal executives project that this new capacity will capture and stimulate current demand on the route, previously estimated at approximately 100 daily passengers.

Technical Details and Operational Capacity
For the deployment of this long-haul route, which has an approximate flight duration of 12 hours, LATAM Airlines Brasil has scheduled its technologically advanced widebody fleet:
- Aircraft: Boeing 787-9
- Total Capacity: 300 passengers
- Cabin Configuration: 270 seats in Economy class and 30 in Premium Business class
Strategic Impact on Cargo Operations
Beyond the leisure, corporate, and diplomatic passenger traffic anticipated for the European summer, the route carries a strong logistics component operated by the group’s cargo subsidiary. The link offers a main-deck and belly capacity to transport over 100 tons of cargo weekly.
On the Brussels-Guarulhos leg, an import boost is projected for high-value goods, with a particular emphasis on the pharmaceutical sector. Conversely, on the export sector, the route will serve as a key outbound gateway for Brazilian products bound for Western and Northern Europe.
European Market Consolidation
With the addition of the Belgian capital, the airline significantly expands its footprint in the Old Continent. The company’s direct transatlantic network from Brazil now comprises the following 10 European destinations:
- Amsterdam (Netherlands)
- Barcelona (Spain)
- Brussels (Belgium)
- Frankfurt (Germany)
- Lisbon (Portugal)
- London (United Kingdom)
- Madrid (Spain)
- Milan (Italy)
- Paris (France)
- Rome (Italy)
The route’s inauguration was celebrated during a formal event at Guarulhos International Airport, attended by LATAM directors, GRU Airport executives, government officials, and tourism sector representatives, accompanied by a special reception dedicated to the passengers of this maiden commercial service.
