Viva Launches High-Speed In-Flight Satellite Internet Service Powered by SES Technology

Mexican carrier Viva has announced the launch of its new high-speed in-flight satellite internet service. This technological solution is set to completely transform the passenger experience, enabling travelers to enjoy continuous, home-like connectivity throughout all phases of flight.

Multi-Orbital Technology and Next-Generation Antennas

The core of this innovation lies in a strategic partnership with SES, operator of the world’s largest geostationary satellite network. Viva positions itself as the first airline in Latin America to deploy advanced Electronically Steered Array (ESA) antennas.

Key features of the newly adopted technological infrastructure include:

The system is currently operational on more than 10 of the carrier’s aircraft, allowing early adopters to experience premium, real-time browsing from takeoff to touchdown.

An Unrestricted Digital Cabin Experience

The incorporation of this high-bandwidth solution eliminates the traditional limitations of inflight Wi-Fi, turning the passenger cabin into a highly productive and entertainment-friendly space.

Following this rollout, the airline’s passengers will be able to enjoy:

“For Viva, connectivity goes far beyond air travel. It is about enabling our passengers to stay close to the people and things that matter most to them,” said Pablo Gomez Gallardo, Chief Digital Officer (CDO) at Viva, emphasizing that inflight Wi-Fi will make every flight smoother and more enjoyable.

Fleet-Wide Scale Implementation

The installation of the satellite connectivity hardware is being executed progressively. The company’s ultimate goal is to eventually integrate this technology across 100% of its operational assets.

This advancement significantly bolsters the service portfolio of the airline, which currently operates the youngest fleet in Mexico, comprising a total of 109 Airbus A320 and A321 narrowbody aircraft.

For his part, Mike DeMarco, President of Mobility at SES, highlighted the value of this regional deployment, noting that the partnership with Viva sets the benchmark for the adoption of advanced connectivity across the Americas, ensuring fast and reliable access regardless of the flight’s destination or schedule.

The gradual introduction of high-speed internet consolidates Viva’s customer service strategy, raising competitive standards in both the domestic and international markets.
