Boeing has discreetly modified the official range figures for its next-generation widebody aircraft, the Boeing 777X. The new specifications add more than 700 nautical miles (NM) to both models in the family, positioning these aircraft more competitively against their long-haul rivals.
A Quiet Leap in Performance Specifications
The technical data update was not rolled out via a traditional press release but was instead detected on the manufacturer’s website by Simple Flying.
Until mid-June 2026, the American airframer advertised range capabilities significantly lower than those currently listed in its technical specifications.
New Numbers for the 777X Family
The increase in maximum flight distances is distributed as follows between the two main variants:
- Boeing 777-8: Its advertised range increased from 8,745 NM to a maximum of 9,500 NM. This represents a 755 NM boost (an 8.6% increase).
- Boeing 777-9: The larger variant raised its range from 7,285 NM to 8,000 NM. This equates to a 715 NM increase (a 9.8% gain).

Passenger Capacity Adjustments and Market Rivalry
In addition to the flight range improvements, the aerospace company modified its standard capacity parameters for typical two-class configurations:
- The 777-8 moved away from a fixed figure of 395 seats to offer a flexible range of 350 to 425 passengers.
- The 777-9 shifted its capacity from 426 seats to a margin of 375 to 450 passengers.
With this performance increase in the smaller model (777-8), Boeing directly narrows the competitive gap against the Airbus A350-1000ULR, the ultra-long-range model of its primary European competitor.
Even before these web platform updates were implemented, the 777X series already marked a significant evolution compared to the models it replaces: the 777-200LR in the case of the 777-8, and the 777-300ER for the 777-9. In a market environment where airlines and end-users prioritize the direct connectivity offered by non-stop ultra-long-haul flights, these newly optimized metrics reaffirm the strategic value of the new jetliner family during its introduction phase.
