Colombia’s aviation sector recorded an increase in passenger and cargo volumes during the first six months of 2026, consolidating its operational momentum.
Boost in Domestic and International Markets
During the first half of 2026, a total of 29 million passengers traveled through Colombia’s airport network, representing a 5.5% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
Demand growth was driven by several key operational and industry factors:
- Expansion and consolidation of air routes.
- Stable service offerings from air carriers.
- More competitive airfares for passengers.
- Strong momentum in the tourism sector, both domestic and inbound.
Domestic Market
In the domestic market, 16.4 million passengers were transported, posting a 6.1% growth rate. This rise reflects increased demand for interregional travel, growing local confidence in air transportation, and a strengthening domestic tourism industry.

International Market
International passenger traffic maintained a positive trajectory with a 4.8% increase. Key contributing factors included a surge in travel to and from Central and South America, as well as several international events hosted across the country.
Air Cargo and Mail Performance
The air cargo segment handled a total volume of 505,775 metric tons between January and June 2026, representing a 5.6% year-over-year increase.
- International Freight: Accounted for the largest share of total operational volume at 435,101 tons, up 6.0% year-over-year. This performance directly strengthened supply chains, foreign trade, and e-commerce logistics.
- Domestic Freight: Recorded 70,674 tons, a 3.1% rise, underscoring the vital role of air transport in national supply distribution, commercial competitiveness, and regional integration across Colombia.
Aviation Investment and Infrastructure
The period’s operational achievements reflect strategic institutional actions led by Colombia’s Special Administrative Unit of Civil Aeronautics (Aerocivil). The civil aviation authority has concentrated its efforts on:
- Airport infrastructure investments nationwide.
- Optimization of air navigation services (ANS).
- Elevating operational safety standards.
- Technological modernization to meet sustained growth in demand.
The operational breakdown for the first half of 2026 solidifies Colombia’s standing as one of the most dynamic commercial aviation markets in Latin America. Sustained growth across passenger, cargo, and mail traffic confirms that air connectivity remains a strategic asset for economic competitiveness, foreign investment attraction, and regional cohesion.
