Consolidation of the Italian Market in 2026

With its arrival in Salerno, Iberia reaches a milestone of 12 destinations in Italy, positioning the transalpine country as one of its most vital commercial pillars in Europe. By the end of 2026, the airline projects it will offer more than 2.85 million seats between Spain and Italy, representing a 1.8% increase compared to the 2.80 million seats marketed in 2025.

The company’s destination network in Italy is structured under year-round and seasonal schedules:

Within this ecosystem, the markets with the highest frequency density are Rome (with up to seven daily flights per direction), Milan (with up to eight combined daily flights between Linate and Malpensa during peak demand periods), and Venice (with up to three daily flights).

“Italy is a strategic market for Iberia and remains one of the pillars of our European network. The addition of Salerno allows us to expand our offering in a market where we hold a robust presence and continue providing more travel options to our customers,” noted Victor Moneo, Iberia’s Director of Global Sales.

Transatlantic Connectivity via the Madrid Hub

The airline’s positioning in Italy not only caters to point-to-point connectivity demand but also feeds Iberia’s hub at Madrid. The carrier facilitates seamless access for Italian passengers to the most extensive long-haul network to Latin America operated by a European airline, in addition to its connections to North America.

Optimized schedule synchronization allows for efficient connections from multiple high-frequency arrivals from Italy to high-demand, daily transatlantic flights heading to key capitals and major metropolises such as Bogota, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, and New York.
