JetBlue Airways has won the auction for Spirit Airlines’ take-off and landing slots at New York’s LaGuardia Airport for $58.5 million. The transaction will allow the carrier to significantly expand its operational capacity at one of the most slot-constrained airports in the United States.
Strategic Consolidation in New York Infrastructure
The court-supervised auction awarded JetBlue the rights to 22 daily slots at LaGuardia. With this strategic move, JetBlue secures the operational capacity to add 11 additional round-trip flights at the New York airport.
Bidding for these high-demand assets was intensely competitive. Frontier Airlines finished as the runner-up with a $57.5 million bid, falling just $1 million short of JetBlue’s winning offer.

Spirit Airlines Collapse and Upcoming Judicial Steps
The asset sale is a direct consequence of Spirit Airlines completely ceasing operations earlier this year, triggered by sustained fuel cost increases that derailed its Chapter 11 restructuring plans. The carrier had filed for bankruptcy protection in August 2025, a year after an earlier insolvency proceeding failed to stabilize its business model.
To finalize the transaction, Spirit Airlines will seek court approval this Wednesday during a scheduled hearing before the bankruptcy court in White Plains, New York.
