Porter Airlines has commenced a comprehensive cabin retrofit program across its fleet of 29 De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft, featuring Expliseat’s latest-generation TiSeat 2V seating. This strategic investment aims to elevate the economy class passenger experience by delivering a modernized aesthetic, enhanced ergonomic comfort, and a significant reduction in carbon emissions.

Technological Innovations of the TiSeat 2V

Engineered by manufacturer Expliseat, the latest iteration of the TiSeat 2V model is recognized as the world’s lightest commercial aircraft seat in its class. Key features customized to the airline’s specifications include:

  • Optimized Ergonomic Design: Fully redesigned seat cushions and backrests engineered to the carrier’s tailored specifications.
  • Integrated IFE Support: Updated tray tables featuring a built-in Personal Electronic Device (PED) holder, enabling hands-free viewing of streaming content.
  • Enhanced Bulkhead Legroom: Reconfigured tray tables on bulkhead seats to provide passengers with extended personal space.

Refreshed Cabin Environment

Beyond the seating upgrade, the overhaul incorporates additional interior enhancements throughout the aircraft cabin:

  • LED Lighting System: Full Light Emitting Diode system featuring customizable mood lighting capabilities and individual LED reading lights.
  • Cabin Floor Coverings: Installation of new carpeting throughout the aisle and common cabin areas.

Sustainability and Operational Efficiency

The TiSeat 2V balances passenger comfort with critical operational efficiencies. Its advanced structure is manufactured using high-strength composite materials, including carbon fiber and titanium, yielding a substantial reduction in total aircraft weight.

This weight savings translates directly into reduced fuel burn and a lower carbon footprint across the operational lifecycle of the turboprop fleet.

Cabin Configuration and Regional Operations

Despite the interior hardware modernization, the overall cabin layout and seat pitch remain unchanged:

  • Capacity: 78 seats in a 2-2 configuration, ensuring no middle seats on any flight.
  • Seat Pitch: 32 inches of pitch in the PorterReserve section and 30 inches in PorterClassic.

The carrier’s Dash 8-400 fleet is deployed across regional routes connecting key markets throughout Eastern Canada and the United States.

The first aircraft fitted with the updated interiors are already operating scheduled revenue flights. According to the airline’s timeline, the retrofit program for all 29 Dash 8-400 aircraft is expected to be completed by autumn of this year.
