Low-cost carrier Wingo inaugurated its new route between Bogota and Valencia’s Arturo Michelena International Airport ahead of schedule on Friday. This strategic decision aims to mitigate disruptions to air connectivity following the temporary closure of Caracas’ Maiquetía International Airport due to recent seismic activity.
The route was originally scheduled to launch on July 14. However, given the operational constraints arising from the recent earthquakes and the subsequent suspension of operations at the Venezuelan capital’s primary gateway, the airline opted to advance its schedule to provide an immediate mobility alternative.
Air connectivity in the region remains vital for passengers traveling for business, labor, family reunions, or essential needs.

Schedule and Frequencies of the New Route
Wingo’s operational framework connecting Bogota with Carabobo State will be structured in two phases:
- Contingency Phase (Early Launch): Special flights will operate on July 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9, 2026.
- Regular Operations: Starting July 14, 2026, the route will stabilize at three weekly frequencies on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, operating on a morning schedule.
With this new connection, Valencia becomes a key hub within the network the airline has been consolidating between both nations, adding to its pre-existing services linking Bogota and Medellin with Caracas.
Flexibility Plan for Affected Passengers
Due to the temporary closure of Maiquetía Airport, Wingo’s scheduled operations to Caracas remain suspended. The carrier stated that it expects to resume flights to the capital once authorities confirm that ideal operational safety and security conditions have been restored at the terminal.
To protect passengers affected by this situation, a voluntary flexibility policy has been activated under the following conditions:
- Eligibility: Passengers with active bookings on the Bogota–Caracas route with travel dates scheduled between June 26 and July 15, 2026.
- Benefits: Reaccommodation at no additional cost on the new Bogota–Valencia route, exempt from penalties or change fees. This measure is subject to seat availability and the company’s operational capacity.
- Customer Service Channels: Changes can be managed via the official website (Wingo.com), their virtual WhatsApp assistant (Violeta, at 320 333 7099), or through their Call Centers.
The airline indicated that it continues to actively monitor the operational environment in Venezuela to evaluate and promptly communicate any further adjustments in coordination with civil aviation authorities.
