AirAsia Announces Its First Codeshare Partnership with Pegasus Airlines
AirAsia has taken a major step in its international connectivity expansion strategy by finalizing its first-ever codeshare agreement with Pegasus Airlines, Turkey’s largest low-cost carrier. This partnership formally links two of the largest low-cost air transport networks in Southeast Asia and Europe, connecting the Asian airline’s dense regional network with the Turkish operator’s extensive European offering via its hub at Istanbul’s Sabiha Gökçen International Airport.
The agreement marks a key milestone in AirAsia’s corporate roadmap toward consolidating its position as the world’s first low-cost network carrier. It optimizes the accessibility and affordability of intercontinental travel while strengthening Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s strategic standing as a major gateway between Asia and the rest of the world.
Operational Deployment: Phased Access to Over 100 Asia-Europe Routes
The commercial alliance will allow the structuring and progressive rollout of access to more than 100 intercontinental routes between Asia and Europe. The initial launch phase enables direct connections for passengers traveling from Kuala Lumpur via Istanbul to five key European destinations:
- Stansted / London — United Kingdom
- Vnukovo / Moscow — Russia
- Esenboğa / Ankara — Turkey
- Zurich — Switzerland
- Athens — Greece
This initial phase establishes the operational foundation for the subsequent scaling of the shared network toward broader continental coverage.

Frequency Expansion and a Seamless Passenger Journey
To support projected demand and ensure a smooth passenger flow between both regions, AirAsia has confirmed a gradual ramp-up of operations on the Kuala Lumpur–Istanbul route, moving from four weekly frequencies to daily service by February 2027. Subsidiary AirAsia X has been operating the direct connection between Southeast Asia and the Turkish city since November 2025.
Key Features of the Codeshare Agreement:
- Single-Booking Convenience: Passengers can book full intercontinental itineraries under a single transaction and a single ticket.
- Through-Checked Baggage: Luggage will be checked through directly to the final destination, eliminating the need for passengers to retrieve and re-check their bags during transit in Istanbul.
- Two-Way Connectivity: The network benefits more than just outbound traffic from Asia. Europe-originating travelers can connect via Istanbul to Kuala Lumpur to access AirAsia’s Fly-Thru network across ASEAN, Asia, and Australia, reaching popular destinations in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, China, and Vietnam, among others.
