Biman Bangladesh Airlines Expands Fleet with Follow-on Order for 11 Boeing Jets
Boeing and Biman Bangladesh Airlines have announced an order for 11 aircraft from the 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX families as the carrier moves to expand and renew its commercial fleet.
The agreement includes:
- Five (5) Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner widebody aircraft.
- Six (6) Boeing 737-8 narrowbody aircraft.
This purchase complements the largest order in the flag carrier’s history—placed earlier this year—which covered 14 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX jets.
The deal was signed on the sidelines of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, attended by senior government officials from both Bangladesh and the United States.
Fleet Modernization and Operating Efficiency
Biman Bangladesh Airlines Chairman Rumee A. Hossain underscored the importance of this supplemental agreement to the carrier’s long-term objectives:
“Today’s supplemental agreement marks a significant milestone in Biman’s ongoing fleet modernization and network expansion. This order directly addresses specific requirements outlined in our fleet plan. Our team’s long-standing working relationship with Boeing gives us strong confidence in their delivery timeline and product support. As the national flag carrier, we remain committed to growing Biman’s network and capabilities to serve the connectivity needs of the Bangladeshi people, our overseas diaspora, business travelers, and tourism. This agreement is part of a broader, carefully considered roadmap to strengthen the nation’s international connectivity in the years ahead.”
Brad McMullen, Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing at Boeing, stated:

These additional 787 Dreamliners and 737 MAX aircraft will deliver the efficiency, versatility, and reliability Biman requires as Bangladesh continues to elevate its footprint in global aviation.”
Technical Integration: Operational Synergies Between the 737-8 and 787-10
Biman currently operates Boeing 787s, 777s, and 737 Next-Generation (NG) aircraft across its international network, connecting Bangladesh with major hubs across the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia, and Europe.
The addition of these latest variants provides distinct technical and operational advantages:
- Fuel Efficiency: The 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX families deliver a 20% to 25% reduction in fuel burn compared to the previous-generation aircraft they replace.
- Commonality and Standardization: Integrating the 737-8 and 787-10 ensures seamless operational commonality with the airline’s existing Boeing fleet.
- Extended Single-Aisle Range: The 737-8 delivers extended range capability across the carrier’s narrowbody route network.
- Optimized Widebody Capacity: The 787-10 introduces increased passenger and cargo payload capacity to complement the 787-8 and 787-9 models already in Biman’s active fleet.
Through this supplemental commitment, Biman Bangladesh Airlines advances its comprehensive fleet modernization program, aiming to build a more efficient, modern, and sustainable operation capable of supporting future growth across business, leisure, and expatriate passenger segments.
