Tocumen International Airport and Copa Airlines resumed flight operations this Friday following a precautionary suspension triggered by a strong earthquake in Panama. Airport authorities ruled out any structural damage to the facilities, while the carrier is already working to restore normal schedules, introducing travel flexibility policies for affected passengers.
Technical Inspections Confirm Safety at Tocumen International Airport
The temporary suspension of flight operations occurred immediately after a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck at a depth of 10 kilometers in southeastern Panama.
Through its official Instagram account, the management of Tocumen International Airport confirmed that comprehensive technical inspections were conducted across key airside and landside infrastructure:
- Runways and taxiways.
- General airport facilities.
- Air traffic control tower.
The engineering assessments determined that there was no structural or technical damage that would compromise the safe resumption of commercial flight operations.

- Travel Dates Covered: Passengers with scheduled flights on October 9 and 10, 2026, across any route operated by the airline.

Operational Guidance for Passengers
As operations gradually return to normal, the airline strongly advises travelers to check their flight status before heading to the airport. Copa Airlines reiterated that regular operational updates will be provided and thanked passengers for their patience while full network operations are being restored.
