United Airlines Accelerates Starlink Rollout: Reaches Nearly Half of Daily Flights and Launches Real-Time Fleet Tracker

Inflight connectivity has become one of the premier battlegrounds in passenger experience, and United Airlines continues to solidify its lead in the segment. The Chicago-based carrier confirmed that its fleet equipped with Starlink satellite internet now powers more than 2,500 daily flights—representing nearly 50% of its regular operations—carrying a daily average of over 250,000 passengers.

The low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellite system is currently active across more than 635 aircraft across both United’s mainline fleet and its regional affiliate, United Express. To date, over 37.7 million passengers have flown aboard Starlink-equipped airframes across more than 538,000 flight sectors, logging connections from 14 million devices.

“Starlink Tracker”: Transparency and Real-Time Data for Passengers

In direct response to customer demand, the carrier rolled out the Starlink Tracker digital portal (accessible at StarlinkTracker.United.com), engineered to provide visibility into the retrofit program and allow travelers to verify inflight connectivity status with daily-updated metrics.

Through this dashboard, travelers can:

Additionally, United alerts travelers to Starlink availability via pre-flight emails, SMS updates, the United mobile app flight status tool, as well as gate announcements and onboard signage.

Extension of “Switch to Better Wi-Fi” Status Match Campaign

Alongside these operational milestones, United announced a one-week extension—running through October 22—for its “Switch to Better Wi-Fi” loyalty status-match promotion, which originally kicked off on October 1.

The initiative enables eligible frequent flyers from Delta SkyMiles and American Airlines AAdvantage to secure reciprocal tier status within the United Premier program through January 2028. To retain and solidify matched status, enrolled members must satisfy specified spend thresholds and complete a qualifying flight operated by United or United Express within a 90-day challenge window.

United Premier Spend Requirements by Tier:

According to carrier figures, thousands of flyers enrolled within the campaign’s first two weeks, driving a 275% spike in status-match applications relative to baseline figures prior to launch. The highest concentration of applications stems from the New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco metropolitan areas, followed closely by Washington D.C., Atlanta, and Chicago.

“Starlink gives customers even more reasons to choose United and keep coming back,” said Andrew Nocella, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at United. “The overwhelmingly positive feedback from our passengers and the surging interest in our ‘Switch to Better Wi-Fi’ promotion underscore the significance of this rollout. Our new tracker makes it straightforward for flyers to identify exactly which flights feature the service as we aggressively scale Starlink installations across the entire fleet.”

Installation Cadence and Fleet-Wide Outlook Through 2027

Sustaining a line-fit and retrofit pace of roughly 20 aircraft per week, United currently fields the largest Starlink-equipped airline fleet globally. The legacy carrier remains on target to finish retrofitting its entire fleet by late 2027, locking in a standardized high-speed, low-latency broadband baseline across its global network.
