This Saturday, Venezuela’s Acting President, Delcy Rodriguez, alongside Minister of Transport Francisco Garces, officially commissioned the Temporary Domestic Arrivals Terminal at Simon Bolivar International Airport in Maiquetia, the primary airport serving Caracas.

According to statements released by the Ministry of Transport across its digital channels, the newly inaugurated facility aims primarily to streamline inbound passenger processing and enhance overall passenger flow at the country’s main aviation gateway.

Facility Capacity and Technical Specifications

The facilities were outfitted to provide a more comfortable, secure, and efficient passenger experience for domestic travelers. Key project specifications include:

  • Total floor area: 1,230 square meters (approx. 13,240 sq ft).
  • Processing capacity: 1,633 passengers per day.
  • Target market: Domestic inbound passengers.

Impact on Connectivity and International Operations

The commissioning of this temporary facility also seeks to decongest other areas of the terminal complex to facilitate broader airport operations. Regarding this matter, Rodriguez emphasized the strategic significance of the project for the nation’s air transport network:

“This new area will allow us to expand international flights, as we are expanding our arrivals capacity. (…) This is very important because the country’s connectivity is rebounding; we now have more air connections and more carriers flying to our country, and that is the positive news the Venezuelan people want to hear.”

The rollout of this arrivals concourse represents an immediate operational adaptation at Maiquetia, designed to handle domestic passenger throughput with greater fluid efficiency while creating the necessary apron and terminal capacity to accommodate flight growth and the arrival of new foreign air carriers to the country.
