The leader of the House of Representatives, the Democrat Nancy Pelosi, rejected this Thursday an aid plan for the airlines sector, if a new wider package is not approved for the United States economy, which has been hit hard by the covid-19 pandemic, reported AFP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I have been very open to a separate law for airlines, as part of a broader law. There is not going to be a separate airline bill without a broader bill,” Pelosi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Republican President Donald Trump said earlier that there are “very productive conversations” with Democrats and indicated that they were aiming for “a broader agreement than the airlines,” which announced thousands of temporary layoffs last week because of the effect of the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With less than a month to go before the November 3 election, Trump abruptly broke off negotiations with the Democrats on Tuesday, but on Thursday he rekindled expectations of a deal and said he sees “very good prospects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government wants a law for the airline industry and new economic aid for workers, but Pelosi, who controls the majority in the House of Representatives, refused, since the Democrats are looking for a rescue package that includes aid for local governments and states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Congress approved a $2.2 trillion support package for the economy in March, the Trump administration and the opposition are at odds over the amount of the next plan. The Democrats first asked for $3 trillion and then agreed to lower it to $2.2 trillion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government drew the line at $1.6 trillion and any agreement must go through the Senate, where the Republicans are in the majority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
