The Mexican government’s Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) issued a formal alert warning of the risks of buying trips with the Interjet <\/strong>airline due to the possible cancellation of flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Profeco reported an accumulated 1,542 complaints from consumers against the airline, with the suspension of trips as the main reason for complaint, and warned of “various problems in its commercial operation, EFE reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Profeco informs and warns about the risk of establishing commercial relations with Interjet, due to the repeated breaches of legal provisions to the detriment of consumer rights,” the agency said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The alert comes after the cancellation of flights from October 31 to November 2, 2020, which resulted in 3,099 passengers affected by a cause “fully attributable to the airline,” according to the attorney general’s office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the company’s announcement of the cancellation of all flights scheduled for November 1, the Airports and Auxiliary Services (ASA) organization revealed that the company did not make payment for the purchase of the turbosine fuel for its available aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday, thousands of Interjet employees protested in Mexico City and Cancun over the company’s failure to pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workers’ demonstration, which blocked access to the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) for four hours, forced the convening of a dialogue table mediated by the Ministry of the Interior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interjet’s financial situation has been of interest since last February, when the organization Mexicans Against Corruption and Impunity (MCCI) reported that it owed more than 3 billion pesos (almost 140.2 million dollars) to various federal agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline rejected this information by calling it “imprecise,” stating that it had made outstanding payments in a timely manner and in April confirmed an agreement with the Mexican treasury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the alert, Profeco pointed out the “problems” of “public domain” that the airline, one of the four most important in the country, has.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La procuradur\u00eda tambi\u00e9n denunci\u00f3 que la aerol\u00ednea no acredit\u00f3 estar \u201coperando la cantidad necesaria de aviones de acuerdo con las condiciones de demanda que existen por el tema de la contingencia sanitaria\u201d de la pandemia de covid-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aunque la aerol\u00ednea ha implementado cupones para compensar a los clientes con vuelos cancelados, la Profeco report\u00f3 que la empresa no siempre puede respetarlos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
