At around 8:15 p.m. this Thursday night, December 31, an Avianca airline plane landed at El Dorado International Airport in Bogot\u00e1, with its wings and one of its engines entangled with the contents of a pyrotechnics balloon, which collided with the aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plane, with registration number N557AB, did not register significant damage, but sources assured that the situation did force the deployment of an emergency device on runway 13L at the Bogota airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An investigation was immediately opened and the airport authorities recalled that the use of pyrotechnics is prohibited in the vicinity of the air port. The plane was arriving in Bogot\u00e1 from Orlando, United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sources from the airline explained to the newspaper El Tiempo that “the flight was never declared an emergency”. And they clarified: “There were no setbacks”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They added that “the balloon reached the plane during the landing, having already touched the runway”, but they were emphatic that “the passengers disembarked without problems”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There was a firefighter inspection by protocol, but they did not report serious damage to the plane,” they said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the morning of January 1st, the Civil Aeronautics made a statement about the case. First, the air authority confirmed what happened on the night of December 31. According to the statement issued, the aircraft in question is the Airbus A319 with registration number N557AV from Avianca, denying the version that indicated that the aircraft landed in an emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aerocivil added that no passengers were at risk from the incident and a review of the plane’s condition was carried out after the landing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Civil Aeronautics makes a call of responsibility to the citizens and reminds that it is totally prohibited the manipulation of any device such as balloons, drones and\/or kites in the vicinity or near the airports, because these can put at risk the air security and human lives,” concluded the document issued by the authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
