After almost a year closed, first due to the pandemic and then due to expansion and renovation works, Jorge Newbery Metropolitan Airport will reopen on March 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the case of Aerol\u00edneas Argentinas, flights departing from the Buenos Aires city airport are scheduled to start on March 16. For the time being, it is only for domestic flights and some regional flights could be added later on, InfoBae reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the closure of El Palomar airport, low-cost airlines will also start operating from the Buenos Aires airport as of March 16. Jetsmart already has flights available in its system departing from that point, the first of them departing at 7:15 a.m. and bound for the city of C\u00f3rdoba. Meanwhile, Flybondi assured that in the next few days they will start to program their schedules with Aeroparque as the new departure point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry of Transportation confirmed the reopening date and pointed out that, in principle, Aeroparque will operate only for domestic flights, while all international operations will be maintained through Ezeiza airport. Later on, it is expected that the Buenos Aires city airport will also be available to operate some regional flights. The decision will depend on the Ministry of Health and the Regulatory Body of the National Airport System (Orsna).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aeroparque Jorge Newbery closed its air operations on August 1 last year due to modernization works in the runway and in the sector of the terminal where regional flights will operate. The works were originally scheduled to be completed during February, but they were extended at least one month longer than planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The work included the addition of 615 meters of runway length and 20 meters of runway width to optimize regional operations and improve safety and connectivity with the outside world. The runway will grow from the current 2100 meters long and 40 meters wide to 2715 meters long and 60 meters wide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The international arrivals and departures sector in the passenger terminal was also expanded, and a new beaconing system was installed for operational safety during takeoffs and landings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
