Chilean health authorities announced on Thursday a new border closure and greater restrictions in the South American country as of April 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement comes at a time when the country is facing an increase in the number of covid-19 infections and despite an efficient vaccination plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The country’s borders are closed. Travel abroad is restricted for the entire month of April for both Chilean citizens and resident foreigners,” said the Undersecretary of the Interior, Katherine Martorell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official indicated that travel outside the country will be restricted and the entry of non-resident foreigners will be prohibited for 30 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, an extension of the curfew which has been in force in the country since the arrival of the pandemic was announced, as well as a reduction in the circulation permits for activities considered essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latam Airlines announced the suspension of most of its scheduled international flights to and from Chile as of April 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
