{"id":115137,"date":"2021-08-19T13:25:25","date_gmt":"2021-08-19T13:25:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/?p=115137"},"modified":"2021-08-19T13:25:27","modified_gmt":"2021-08-19T13:25:27","slug":"korean-air-plans-retire-a380s-747-8is","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aviacionaldia.com\/en\/2021\/08\/korean-air-plans-retire-a380s-747-8is.html","title":{"rendered":"Korean Air plans retire its A380s and 747-8Is over next ten years."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Korean Air <\/strong>plans to entirely exit four-engined passenger aircraft within the next ten years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The carrier\u2019s plans for its Airbus 380 and Boeing 747-8I fleets were confirmed by chief executive Walter Cho in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flightglobal.com\/fleets\/korean-air-to-retire-a380s-in-five-years-747-8is-in-ten-ceo\/145142.article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">FlightGlobal<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>See also: <\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/en\/2021\/07\/airbus-challenges-boeing-cargo-dominance-with-a350-freighter.html\"><em>Airbus challenges Boeing cargo dominance with A350 freighter.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe A380s will be leaving Korean Air\u2019s fleet within five years, and the Boeing 747-8I fleet will also follow suit within ten years,\u201d says Cho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Korean\u2019s second quarter results presentation, it has 10 A380s and 10 747-8Is. The presentation also shows that the 747-400 is no longer a part of Korean\u2019s operational fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>See also: <\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/en\/2021\/08\/boeing-737-max-performs-first-flight-tests-in-china.html\"><em>Boeing 737 MAX performs first flight tests in China.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cirium fleets data suggests that nine of the A380s and eight of the 747-8Is are in storage. The average age of the A380s is 9.3 years, while that of the 747-8Is is 5.2 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Korean will also inherit six Asiana Airlines A380s when its acquisition of the rival airline is completed, likely in a few years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for its other widebodies, Korean operates 26 777-300ERS with an average age of 7.3 years. It also has orders for 10 787-9s (adding to 10 in its current inventory) and 20 787-10s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI believe the Boeing 777 is one of the most successful aircraft in aviation history,\u201d says Cho. \u201cIf asked, I would say the B777-300ER is my favourite model. While I haven\u2019t ruled out the Boeing 777X, there are some points that still need verification. I may consider it after that, but I don\u2019t think we\u2019ll have a large demand for new aircraft for some time as we already have a significant number of aircraft in operation or on
