{"id":116518,"date":"2021-09-24T20:30:00","date_gmt":"2021-09-24T20:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/?p=116518"},"modified":"2021-09-24T21:44:48","modified_gmt":"2021-09-24T21:44:48","slug":"united-airlines-fined-1-9-million","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aviacionaldia.com\/en\/2021\/09\/united-airlines-fined-1-9-million.html","title":{"rendered":"United Airlines fined $1.9 million for tarmac delays."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>United Airlines <\/strong>was fined $1.9 million Friday by the U.S. Transportation Department for violating federal rules on long tarmac delays and ordered to cease future similar violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The department said between December 2015 and February, United allowed 25 flights to remain on the tarmac for lengthy periods without allowing passengers to deplane, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/united-arlns-fine\/update-1-united-airlines-fined-1-9-million-for-u-s-tarmac-delays-idUSL1N2QQ210\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Reuters<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>See also: <\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/en\/2021\/09\/american-airlines-and-gol-sign-exclusive-agreement.html\"><em>American Airlines and GOL sign exclusive codeshare agreement.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>United said Friday it remains \u201ccommitted to fully meeting all DOT rules and will continue identifying and implementing improvements in how we manage difficult operating conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The department said this is the largest fine of its kind ever imposed and impacted a total of 3,218 passengers. The Biden administration has pledged to take a tough line on airline consumer actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>United noted \u201cultimately only 25 out of nearly 8 million flights operated by United\u201d and its partners warranted \u201cenforcement action\u201d over more than five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>See also: <\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/en\/2021\/09\/emirates-ramps-up-us-flights-from-octobe.html\"><em>Emirates ramps up US flights from October.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carriers are generally not allowed to keep planes on the tarmac for more than three hours for domestic flights and four hours for international flights without providing passengers an opportunity to deplane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>United must pay $950,000 of the fine, while United was credited with $750,000 paid in compensation for impacted passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Transportation Department said $200,000 of the assessed penalty shall be credited to United to develop \u201ca diversion management tool which improves United\u2019s Network Operations Center overall situational awareness of system-wide diversions and better allows United to avoid the
